The Eastside Cafe in Digbeth is a BeB Sustainable Restaurant Awards winner and one of the few excellent small businesses to have survived the mass clearance process known as Eastside regeneration.
The cafe is under threat as the landlord has given 18 days’ notice of an 80% rent increase on top of a number of other forms of behaviour that could [allegedly] be illegal.
If you know any sources of help such as affordable legal advice or even alternative premises please let Dil at the cafe know – drop in (Coventry St) or email us to pass it on if you can’t find contact details. She did contact our esteemed local newspapers but they said they would only be interested in the story once she had been forced to close. Nice.
While not a social enterprise its owner Dil runs the business on sustainability lines and works with other social enterprises. Hence winning the award.

Hi Karen
Terrible news for cafe. We have premises available on the ground floor of the Custard Factory. There has recently been a change of management here and we’re currently undergoing a renovation project. It would be fantastic to keep the Eastside Cafe in Digbeth and have it opearting for here. Would you be able to forward this message to Dil and ask her to get in contact with me on 07824903497 for a chat? Thanks a lot.
Will
Apologies Will – only just seen this, but have forwarded.
